'Straight up' by Brian Calvin

Case Studyo proudly presents STRAIGHT UP, a limited edition by celebrated California-based artist Brian Calvin. Known for his radiant close-up portraits and exploration of stillness, Calvin brings his distinctive visual language to a new medium with this 50cm circular enamel-on-metal plate, produced in an edition of 35 pieces.
The work features one of Calvin’s iconic female figures, composed in his signature style: flat, luminous color fields, exaggerated features, and a hypnotic gaze. Rendered in six bold enamel tones, the piece captures a suspended moment, drawing the viewer into Calvin’s world of psychological nuance and precise visual rhythm.
As in his paintings, Calvin blurs the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, narrative and pause. With STRAIGHT UP, the portrait becomes a sculptural object, part collectible and part contemplative presence, translating the introspective energy of his canvases into a new, tactile form.
